Question Description
Need an outline and a final draft
A 5-minute speech is usually around 500 words. The subject of your speech can be similar to NPRs program This I believe (i.e. something that reflects your everyday-ethics); an episode of Hasan Minhajs Patriot Act; or the John Oliver segment, How is this still a thing? or you could do an interview like Alie Wards with Dr. Robin Kimmerer. This project will involve some research, but also should draw from your personal experience.
This is an opportunity to explore an idea or topic that you are passionate or curious about! You are also welcome to be as creative as you want to be.
Requirements:
Need have a main idea and 3 examples and explanation, and need having a take away.
- You will make a narrow/specific claim and support it with examples and analysis.. Your argument might be something like I believe
- 4-5 minutes and 15-20 slides (limited to no words on your slides, other than headers) and pre-recorded. Think like a PSA-style situation and you can appear either as a voiceover or as yourself in the video. (This could basically be a podcast with images or a video essay, depending on how you approach it)
- Incorporate your personal experience in some way–this speech is very much about your point of view and articulating that point of view.
- This assignment should weave in research. You need at least 3 sources and 1 needs to be a scholarly source. That said, the dominant voice should be your own!
