Question Description
Students will go to the following link and complete two implicit bias tests of their choosing:
https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html (Links to an external site.)
After taking the tests, students will write a 2-4 page reflection paper (12-point, Times New Roman, double-spaced, 1 margins, NO CITATIONS required) answering the following: 1) Define implicit bias and indicate your opinion on whether all people have implicit bias; 2) State your opinion of whether some people have more implicit bias than others and why; 2) Your reaction to your test results: Were you surprised? Did you feel any specific emotions about it? Why do you think you felt one way or another?; 3) Your thoughts on how people can remain aware of implicit bias and strategies to reduce it. Students can choose to share their results in the paper, or talk about them more broadly without sharing specifics. The paper should be in essay form, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
It is important for students to remember that this assignment DOES NOT indicate that students are bad people, racist, misogynist, bigots, etc. All people are at least somewhat a product of their surroundings, which can lead individuals to have unconscious perceptions about people that are different than themselves.
