After reading the Rampart CRASH Unit article, I understand the distance created between the community and the LAPD officers. During the “Rampart” era, many officers within the LAPD were engaged in illegal activities but not all them were caught. This was a crucial time for society as a whole due to the 1990’s being a sensitive time frame regarding police brutality and the Rodney King case riots. As previously mentioned the relationship between the citizens and officers is a very important factor when solving crimes and implementing effective patrol tactics in our communities. 

As stated in the article some of the officers damaged the relationship between LAPD and the citizens by their unethical actions, lack of integrity, and little respect for the community. Having no respect for the law enforcement profession and yourself can lead to bribery and violent crimes under the color of authority. Some of the officers acted under the power of the badge to commit their crimes with the sole purposes of benefiting themselves and their partners in crime. The article mentions crimes ranging from elaborate bank robberies with inside intel to violent and unprovoked beatings. At the end of the day the City of Los Angeles has to clean up the dirty work and consequences from the unethical behavior of the officers involved.
