Computer technology has replaced other forms of technology in the modern world. According to Farzandipour et al. (2016), computer technology has made it easier for us to handle the complexity and efficiency needed in many different types of labor. In many ways, using computer technology has aided in raising the standard of patient care. This is because using computers has helped decrease pharmaceutical errors caused by using outdated files and documentation techniques, improving the accuracy of care. The storage of records and assessments in computers today makes it simpler to transfer patient data from one department to another (Ferdousi et al., 2020). Making joint decisions is a critical function of nurses in selecting and assessing information systems. As was already established, the development of healthcare information systems has significantly improved the flow of information among healthcare professionals.
As we become more conscious of the nursing profession’s information systems and the advantages of the computer to manage them more effectively, new roles and responsibilities are emerging within the field. With this new technology, we are required to do more than learn how to use new equipment. Nursing executives must be aware of some crucial issues due to the complexity, expense, and quick changes in hospital computer technology. We will not be able to acquire computer tools that are helpful to the profession until we have a thorough understanding of hospital information systems and a strong understanding of the nursing practice and the information systems that support it. Nurses can only maintain professional control of the enormous sophisticated systems currently being installed in many healthcare settings by actively participating today in integrating computers into clinical practice (Farzandipour et al., 2016).
Nurses examine the improvement made by using these systems in healthcare to increase the quality of care while choosing and evaluating information systems. Nurses must determine whether the chosen information system will help enhance the delivery and quality of care to patients because they are the stakeholders who utilize information systems more frequently. Keeping up with contemporary technologies is another responsibility of the nurses. Because they can improve care delivery by utilizing current technology, nurses must ensure they are up to date (Ferdousi et al., 2020). Nurses are entrusted with exposing the issues with the information systems and requesting the necessary improvements throughout the selection and evaluation of information systems.
What methods made the information system’s implementation easier, and what obstacles did it face?
Information systems implementation is aided in numerous ways. One tactic is to create exciting and interactive activities that improve implementation thoughtfully. Another tactic for making sure the system is put into use as intended is the use of active monitoring and evaluation. Building a support structure is crucial, say Garner et al. (2017), because it guarantees that all stakeholders are involved in the tasks required to execute the system properly. Invite different stakeholders to assist with the activities as another way to help the information system be implemented successfully. Engaging specialists and mentors is crucial since it guarantees proper information system implementation.
Some obstacles impede or otherwise impair the installation of information systems, even though numerous solutions make it easier. The high price of purchasing information systems is one of the obstacles. Some of the information systems are very expensive to buy, as stated by Garner et al. (2017). The systems’ hefty maintenance costs are another deterrent. Another issue is a lack of technical competence and understanding because nurses must be educated to use the devices correctly.
