Share your perceptions based on your current work environment: Is nursing perceived as a professional partner with other disciplines?
Based on my current work environment, because nurses coordinate the care of the patients, they are seen as professional collaborators with other professions. To provide the best possible patient care, the multidisciplinary team’s members must all successfully interact with the nurse. The nurse also serves as a manager, an educator, and a counselor in situations when the patient’s best interests are prioritized. The patient experience would be unorganized and unsatisfying among the other healthcare providers without respect as a professional partner.
Today’s nurses must work well with other healthcare team members from different specialties in order to give patients the treatment they need and enhance their outcomes. As a result, nurses must collaborate with professionals from other fields as both team members and team leaders. Nurses must be aware of each member’s training, areas of specialization, and scope of practice in order to accomplish this. More efficient use of the knowledge and resources available can be achieved by learning the conventions and vocabulary of other disciplines.
In fact, other fields view nursing as a professional partner. The partnership among professionals indicates that they will work together to advance their shared interests (Klaiman et al., 2016). The nursing profession and other professions should collaborate and cooperate on projects since nursing is fundamental to all professions, just as health is to all people.
For instance, in order for an architect or engineers to work at their best, they must be in good health. This is where nursing comes in because, in addition to advocating for the adoption of practices that enhance overall health, nursing also manages diseases that are already present. The nursing profession is partnered with other professions to achieve this goal since all professions require healthy employees to ensure optimal production (Salmon & Walji, 2019). To guarantee that the patient is well cared for and nursed back to optimal health or given a dignified death, the medical profession, for example, generates physicians who collaborate closely with nurse practitioners from the nursing profession. This is their shared objective, which motivates them to collaborate by becoming partners.
Also, to protect teachers and pupils from illnesses like common communicable diseases, the nursing profession collaborates with the teaching profession.
For example, when a teacher at an elementary school observes that a student has a communicable disease, the teacher alerts the nursing and medical staff so that the student can be treated as needed. As these are their shared objectives, the nursing and teaching professions collaborate to enhance health through disease vigilance, monitoring, and prevention of transmission from one person to another.
My findings have led me to the confident conclusion that nursing is indeed regarded as a partner with other professions in the promotion of health and delivery of care to the sick population.
