At some point in every construction project, efforts turn from design and the focus moves to actual construction. With the vision in place and the tools secured, the blueprint can be finalized and approved. Then it is time to put on hardhats and begin work.
Throughout the course you have developed aspects of your Academic and Professional Development Plan. You have thought a great deal about your vision and goals, your academic and professional network of support, research strategies and other tools you will need, the integrity of your work, and the value of consulting the work of others. With your portfolio in place, it is now time to finalize your blueprint for success.
Much as builders remain cognizant of the building standards as they plan and begin construction, nurses must remain mindful of the formal standards of practice that govern their specialties. A good understanding of these standards can help ensure that your success plan includes any steps necessary to excel within your chosen specialty.
In this Assignment you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan by developing the final component–a review of your specialty standards of practice. You will also submit your final version of the document, including Parts 1–5.

Social Networking has become an important part of society and the healthcare world. It is important for professionals to have a network of other professionals to collaborate with, share information, and prepare for future employment.
My Academic and Professional Network
I have identified and secured the participation of the following academic (at least two) and professional (at least two) individuals and/or teams to form the basis of my network. This network will help me to clarify my vision for success and will help guide me now and in the future.
NETWORK MEMBER 1
Dr. Kassandra Kornbau is the medical director of Comprehensive Behavioral Health Associates would be my first choice to form my network. She has a Doctor of Nursing in family practice and a certification in Psych Nursing. Why I selected this individual and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse: Dr. Kornbau has set an example for me by taking the steps to become a professional who cares about her patients, is respectful and works hard to provide a holistic patient centered practice. Dr. kornbau has also supported me in returning to school and provided encouragement that has given me the strength to do so.

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse: Dr. Momen has been shown that mental health is an important part of the healthcare system. He has dedicated his life to treating psychiatric illness and lead research in his field of practice. He has many connections across the United States and would be helpful in networking my field of practice.

Fortis College is the academic institute I attended for my ADN in 2008 to 2010. The School of Nursing is located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio selected this individual nursing team because they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse: It has been eleven years since I graduated but any time I needed to speak to someone or talk to an instructor for advice or to answer professional questions. Someone has always answered. Two of my instructors while attending school were in the process of graduating from Walden University.

Academic Resource/Strategy 1
My first academic resource iIs the writing center at Walden University. During this time of completing my education at Walden University I am learning to write scholarly papers which will be used in my practice in the future. Excellent writing skills are important for a nurse. Especially when charting or creating care plans. Also writing skills can help provide better treatment for the patient. I can improve my skills with the writing center because it has many resources such as videos to watch on APA format. Also, a student can schedule with a tutor who can help organize your thoughts for a paper, review a paper and give input or help with corrections (Walden University (2020), Writing Center)
Academic Resource/Strategy 2
The Master of science in Nursing Starting January-March 2021. Facebook page is my second academic resource. This group consists of students who have started Walden University between January and March,2021 and is a social network for students who are in the Master of science group. Young and older generations are using Facebook to facilitate discussions that are relative to the MSN program including Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program. By using this Facebook page a student can build friendships and a network to ask questions, get support, especially when a student is struggling. This group has a positive vibe and it consists of students from all over the world.
Academic Resource/Strategy 3
The Library would be a good academic resource for me. I am a book addict. I love to read about all subjects. The library could be a public library or Walden University’s library. Both have
critical resources such as, access to journals, articles, search engines, computers and printers. All of this makes learning possible with little distractions which makes a library a productive environment (Arndt,2016). A library can also add to my academic learning and long-term retention. Professional Resource/Strategy 1
My first professional resource is the American Nurses Association (ANA). This organization represents over 4 million nurses (ANA,2018) The ANA empowers and supports nurses in leadership. The ANA also has many resources, policies for nursing, the nurse’s scope of practice, along with a membership a nurse can join, pathways and advocacy. This association also encourages education. I believe as nurses we are always learning and need to stay informed on new treatments, medications and nursing laws.
Professional Resource/Strategy 2
A second professional resource is the nursing and Allied Health Resource is a resource section of the Medical Library Association (MLA, 2021). This website has a multitude of links for nurses including websites, journals, anatomy resources, webinars, peer reviews, a global connection and a resource section for powerful tools for papers that have not been written and style and plagiarism. This is a valuable resource for me especially as an older adult returning to school and a way to keep up to date on medical information in nursing. It is also a way to collaborate with other professionals in a particular field like mental health.

A third professional resource is the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. This association is related to my field. The association is also on Facebook which is networking since there are many members. The website has journals, articles and webinars all related to mental health and provides the most up to date information on this area of practice. A student or professional can join the membership, look for employment and attend webinars (American Psychiatric nurses Association, 2020)’

Salmond & Echevarria (2017) list the factors accelerating healthcare transformation: disparities, unsustainable costs, limited access, fragmentation, and sub-optimal results. With the rapidly changing demographics and social structures, there is a need for evolution in healthcare practices. The article discussed undergoes professional practice usage in various ways, one being identifying nurses’ roles in enabling change in healthcare. As learned fellows and significant societal figures, nurses have a responsibility to ensure their profession adapts to their communities’ changing needs and the world at large. The topic also helps in understanding the factors that cripple the positive transformation of healthcare systems. For instance, it lists ballooning and unsustainable costs as a barrier to healthcare evolution. Governments must find ways to mitigate the rising costs of healthcare to maintain accessibility by all demographics.
Strengths of the Research

The authors are also reputable, with Salmond (2017) being the Executive Dean and a Professor at the Rutgers School of Nursing, while Echevarria (2017) being an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean at George Washington University Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.
Limitations of the Research
The occurrence of a field study by the authors could have added more detail and strength to the research. Interviews with nurses and stakeholders in nursing could have provided a real-world view on the transformation of the sector.
Relevance to the Topic of Interest
The topic of interest involves the evolution of nursing, while the article focuses on healthcare transformation and the changing role for nursing. Therefore, the article possesses a high relevance level to the topic of interest.
Section Two
The first method to use in identifying a scholarly peer-reviewed article is checking the author’s credentials. An exceptional scholarly article should involve highly qualified authors who possess excellent academic credentials or work at recognized institutions. For instance, Salmond & Echevarria (2017) are both professors and leaders in acknowledged academic institutions. The second method to use is assessing the article’s intention. Does it inform or entertain? A good scholarly article should focus on creating new knowledge or adding to existing data. The third method involves assessing the structure of the article. A scholarly article has an abstract, with headings at each section and subsection. It should also state the study’s purpose, the research design, results, and study findings. The fourth method involves the tone of the article. A scholarly article should have a formal and professional tone, mostly understood by higher education experts. The fifth mode of assessment involves the article’s publication source; is it reliable or full of graphics and advertisements? A scholarly article’s website has an informative objective and should look professional. It should also have a solid scholarly reputation. For instance, Salmond & Echevarria (2017) is featured in the Orthopedic Nursing Journal, which has a solid reputation among peers and contains several accepted and peer-reviewed scholarly articles.
An effective strategy in finding peer-reviewed research is identifying important keywords in one’s
research question and using them to search for relevant articles in the Walden University Library database. Through such, one narrows down to the scholarly materials pertinent to their study.
Another strategy is first narrowing down to the niche of study before searching. For instance, one could navigate to nursing to restrict the search results to nursing journals and articles. To ensure the search results are ideal and acceptable, one should also restrict the search results to the last five years as required by regulations.
One of the resources I intend to use in the future to find scholarly articles in Google Scholar. Such is a database by Google that contains hundreds of scholarly websites that one could search for relevant journals. For instance, typing ‘nursing’ on the search box returns tens of results related to the profession, including gateways to popular journals such as Science Direct. Another ideal resource for finding peer-reviewed works is Wikipedia. Despite not being allowed as a citation, Wikipedia articles contain links to their information sources, including several
popular journals. Following these links should lead one to ideal peer-reviewed articles and journals. The other resource I intend to use is Elsevier Health, a database for medical journals, books, and articles. The best thing about Elsevier Health is that it focuses on the medical niche, which is appropriate and ideal for a nursing student. Searching on this database returns several medical and nursing-related scholarly articles. I also found SCIRUS, a search index tool for scholarly articles, to be an ideal database for peer-reviewed journals and articles. Therefore, I intend on using this tool in my future academic endeavors.
