Hospital administrators and healthcare organizations are actively working to transform their surroundings in order to prioritize improvements in patient safety and happiness (McAllen, Stephen, Swanson-Bieraman, Kerr, & Whiteman, 2018). The main parties impacted by the implementation of bedside nursing reports are the Board of Trustees and the patients. The Board of Trustees is responsible for choosing actions that are in the hospital’s best interests. The hospital heavily depends on the knowledge of these staff members to keep the institution safe from catastrophic occurrences.

Project Will Enhance Patient Outcomes or Patient Care Efficiencies
“To avoid adverse occurrences and medical mistakes, nurse shift changes necessitate the smooth transfer of information between nurses. To ensure that these transitions in care are secure and successful, patients and families may contribute. According to research, patient involvement can result in measurable enhancements in safety and quality of care (Nurse Bedside Shift Report, 2017). Increased patient involvement and understanding of care, communication between the patient and nurse about updates on their conditions, increased accountability of nurses, increased teamwork and relationships among nurses, increased patient satisfaction, and a reduced risk of mistakes are just a few of the many advantages of bedside reporting (Rush, 2012). An evaluation of the patient and surroundings follows the outgoing nurse’s introduction of the patient to the incoming nurse in the bedside report. The patient assessment will contain a basic summary of the patient’s condition and significant areas of care. These issues can include wounds, dressings, aberrant heartbeats or breath sounds, a safety check of the space, an evaluation of the IV site for fluids and inflammation, or anything else that is deemed out of the ordinary (McAllen et al., 2018). The goal of communication during the bedside shift report is to guarantee patient safety and continuity of treatment.

Technology Necessary for Project Implementation

The implementation of bedside nursing reports will be significantly aided by electronic health records (EHRs). The majority of EHR paperwork is completed by nurses throughout their shifts. Creating care plans, physiological parameters, assessments, treatments, and progress evaluations are a few of these duties, all of which are essential to care integration and patient safety (Glassman, 2017). A computerized system for tracking problems found by bedside nursing reports is also being developed. The delivery of patient care at all levels of a care delivery organization must be evaluated and improved continuously as part of clinical transformation. It occurs when a company adopts a common objective of patient safety, clinical outcomes, and quality care through process reform and IT deployment and rejects existing practice patterns that provide inefficient or less effective results (Sugrue, 2013, p. 18). For instance, during a bedside nurse report, problems can be identified and resolved, such as medication errors or patient falls. To sustain the necessary gains to patient safety made with bedside nurse reports, this system would need to be in place to analyze, monitor, and evaluate data (McAllen et al., 2018).
Participants in the project team
The Quality Improvement Manager will be a member of the project team. The Quality Improvement Manager will initially need to meet with hospital administrators to go over the project’s budget and funding sources. In the end, the hospital’s budget will decide if a new project is currently financially feasible. The new method of receiving and getting a bedside report at shift change will be designed and put into place by the quality improvement manager. Also, he or she will give the new adjustments to the nurse managers of each hospital unit and explain them to them. As members of the project team, the nurse managers will be crucial. Implementing bedside nursing reports on their respective units will fall under the purview of the nurse managers. In order to guarantee that the implementation of beside report is a seamless transition, they are also responsible for giving the nurses on the units the appropriate training. The hospital may also set a strict timeline for the project to be underway in each hospital unit. On their respective units, the nurse manager is in charge of adhering to this deadline. The inclusion of computational tools and algorithms to assist with the gathering, organizing, analyzing, processing, presenting, and disseminating of biological data must be facilitated by nurse informaticists (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018, p. 546). The nurse informaticist would design a system to monitor, quantify, and assess the many kinds of errors discovered during bedside reporting. Following up on this information would help to build on the gains in patient safety made with the bedside report (Surgue, 2013).
Nursing practice change can take time to plan for and implement. The foundation on which healthcare organizations were founded in patient care and the manner in which the treatment is provided. In any setting where healthcare is provided, technology-enhancing tools unquestionably impact every part of the nursing process. Healthcare institutions must be dedicated to delivering seamless care effectively and quickly in order to maximize patient happiness and safety. Using nurse communication procedures like the bedside nursing report, healthcare organizations can accomplish this more successfully. Integrating the bedside nursing report processes into the nurse workflow using technology fosters connections with patients outside of the hospital and fosters relationships and trust. By the use of bedside nursing reports, the organization may close communication gaps between nurses, patients, and families, improving clinical results and staff and patient satisfaction (Collins, 2014).
