As implied by the terms “model” or “framework,” models offer an organizational structure that clarifies links between ideas (Black, 2017). In any profession, theories offer direction and structure. Nursing theories are crucial because they define the profession of nursing. The theory that each model uses in its practice sets the medical model apart from the nursing model. The nursing model takes a patient-centered, holistic approach to care, while the medical model views the patient as a sickness that needs to be treated.
Group communication and education-based empowerment are two strategies I would employ to promote the application of nursing theory as a foundation for high-quality practice. A journal club might be appropriate in the setting I currently work in.
Using nursing theory as a framework for high-quality practice begins with education. We would often get together as a team to debate academic articles regarding various nursing ideas. Each team member would share with the group any books that they had found helpful in their own practice. The journal club might provide a forum for nurses to share their opinions, talk about positive patient outcomes, plan for implementation, and stay up to date on new research. In addition to a journal club, conferences can be helpful for continuing professional growth. In my current workplace, I would distribute flyers that listed regional summits or conferences and urged nurses to attend.
Patient-centered nursing is the most often employed type of care in today’s healthcare system (PCN). The most often used nursing framework is PCN. The patient is the center of the PCN framework. Person, health, nursing, and the environment are the four components. The concept puts the patient’s needs first by ensuring that their values and preferences are taken into account while making healthcare decisions. Including the sufferer is necessary. Successful patient-centered care produces these results, which are at the center of the PCN framework: satisfaction with care, involvement in care, a sense of well-being, and the creation of a therapeutic environment (McCormack, McCance, 2017). Patients are involuntarily admitted for therapy where I work now. Sadly, the patients pose a risk to both themselves and others. After things had settled, the standard of care might have improved if the doctors had prioritized the patient’s ideal outcome.
In conclusion, theory serves as the fundamental cornerstone of the nursing profession. What distinguishes the nursing profession is its holistic approach, with patient care at its core. Because it places the patient at the center of their treatment during their journey to wellness, the PCN Framework is one of the best. The implementation of nursing theory into practice and empowerment both depend heavily on professional development. In addition to being empowering, studying theory will help nurses recognize their unique position in the modern healthcare system. The PCN is a complex strategy, but when used effectively, it significantly raises the standard of care.
