Evidence-based Practice:The Staff Nurse’s Role

Evidence-based Practice:The Staff Nurse’s Role

Evidence-based Practice:The Staff Nurse’s Role

Evidence-based practice refers to the process of collecting, processing, as well as implementing research to improve clinical practices (Storey et al., 2019). The role of staff nurses in evidence-based practice in my organization is very vital as they are the major workforce interacting with the patients. They know the issues faced by the patients and the personal inclinations of culture and religion the patients have. They also ensure that they are always updated about emerging medical protocols for the care of patient. This can be done by looking for interventions which are documented that fit the profiles of their patients. Nurses can also increase their patients’ chances of recovery.

Nurses are responsible for evaluating research, so they understand the risks or effectiveness of a diagnostic test or treatment. The influence of EBP has enabled nurses to include patients in their care plan (Häggman-Laitila, et al., 2016). This has made the patients have a proactive role in their own healthcare since they can voice their concerns, share their preferences and values, and make suggestions on how they want to proceed with their medication. Thus, nurses can advocate for the issues of the patients, and after reading scientific recent researches in medical journals, they can practice evidence-based practice in the clinical context to provide the safest and most efficacious treatment in a patient centered way by being sensitive to the religious and cultural inclinations of the patients. This leads to the building of a bond of trust between the providers and the patients, leading to adherence hence, improved patient outcomes.

Evidence-based practice is valued a lot by my colleagues on the nursing staff because they all realize that while administrating a medical intervention such as a diagnostic test, they should opt for the most sensitive test, i.e., it produces the least false negative, false positive, and least invasive results. This has been evidenced by the fact that the nurses are aware of current practices, due to this, they are able to offer care to patients with complicated conditions like mental disorders. The organization has recorded good patient outcomes, which has decreased the demand for healthcare resources. Thus, the healthcare organization has experienced a significant reduction in its expenses. Outdated practices that may have involved supplies, equipment, or products no longer necessary for certain procedures or techniques have been done away with.

There has been encouraged individualization of care by including patient preferences, which also vindicate the level of value that has been accorded to EBP.

In the case of evidence-based practice for the treatment, they know that the medical intervention provided by evidence-based practice is most safe and efficacious. Therefore, they collaborate with the providers to deliver the best care by practicing evidence-based practice.
