Walt disney company
“The mission of The Walt Disney Company is to entertain, inform and inspire people around the globe through the power of unparalleled storytelling, reflecting the iconic brands, creative minds and innovative technologies that make ours the world’s premier entertainment company.” (Walt Disney Company, n.d.). According to William (2019), Disney has an organizational culture for excellent entertainment, that motivates staff “cast members,” to focus on providing the best entertainment experiences to customers, who the company refers to as “guests.” The main components of the culture are:
Innovation- The objective is to encourage creative imagination in the company’s human resources, to achieve excellent products and business performance.
Decency- With a family-oriented business focus, The Walt Disney Company emphasizes decency in its organizational culture
Quality- This cultural characteristic requires high-quality standards in all aspects of the business, including employees’ skills. Managerial emphasis on quality helps fulfill The Walt Disney Company’s generic competitive strategy and intensive growth strategies, which prioritize the differentiation of products through uniqueness and quality in business divisions and subsidiaries, such as Pixar Animation Studios.
Community- A community the mindset in human resource development is one of Disney’s strategies in using its organizational culture to manage employees and their behaviors and outputs toward the fulfillment of business goals.
Storytelling- The company’s history is a story to tell, so are its products in the global mass media, entertainment, and theme park industries. Through this cultural factor, the business facilitates employee behaviors that add value to products.
Optimism- This cultural characteristic focuses on virtues like hope and happiness. (William, 2019)
Being able to institute these attributes within the company starts with the hiring profile for each position. The Walt Disney Company has a cooperative multidivisional (M-form) an organizational structure that focuses on business types, media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, and consumer products and interactive media. When looking at the career webpage, you’ll notice that the business type categories have an overview of the category as it relates to Disney’s mission and vision statements. This introduces/exposes applicants to the culture of Walt Disney at an early phase in the hiring process. These attributes are used to support the business, allowing it to remain competitive within the entertainment and media industry. Disney continues to set the stage for new innovative ways to entertain guests, whether that be via TV services or theme parks.
The two attributes that I feel will be most imperative for the company’s success are innovation and community. As mentioned above, the company is able to thrive and set the stage for many companies because they continue to find innovative ways to entertain and produce quality products. These attributes allow the company to institute new technology using new/current equipment that appeals to customers. This also impacts the “cast members” and their ability to perform, because they are able to work for an organization that is constantly evolving and finding ways to enhance their offerings. The same stands for community, this attribute focuses on the company remaining diverse and tailoring to all communities of people, both guests, and cast members. A sense of community attributes to high employee morale, high quality of the product, and high customer satisfaction. By continuing to focus on those attributes this will allow the Walt Disney Company to continue to excel within the entertainment world.
