Compare and contrast the U.S. Constitution and the Arizona Constitution
The Arizona Constitution is state legislation and the US Constitution is national legislation, similarly, they both have a two-house legislature represented by the Senate and the House of Representatives. Of course, the Arizona has only 30 senators to United States 100 senators and 60 House of Representatives to United States 435 representatives. Both congresses most important duty is to make laws. Another similarity is the terms for House of Representatives for both the US and Arizona is two years. They both have executive branches consisting of President and/or Governor with a term of four years.
Another similarity between US and Arizona are they both have a judicial branch which consists of a Supreme Court and other lower courts however the Supreme court is of the highest body. They both have preambles. Both US and Arizona constitution has articles.
The US congress meets in Washington D.C. while Arizona State legislative sessions are held at their state capital, Phoenix. Another difference is the length of terms for senators, for the US the term is six years and Arizona only two-year terms. Another variance is the president has his own advisors and federals agencies whereas the governor is assisted by a Secretary of State, State Treasure, State Attorney General, Superintendent of Public Instruction, State Mine Inspector and a five-member Corporation Commission with all these officers holding a term of four years. The difference between the US and Arizona preamble is that it doesn’t mention the religious aspect of the Almighty God as in Arizona’s preamble. The Arizona constitution has 30 articles where the US constitution only has 7 articles.
The US Senators and House of Representatives are elected by popular vote and with age restrictions however nothing was mentioned in my readings how Arizona Senators and House of Representatives are elected and any age restrictions.
Three findings that account for the significant differences in length between Arizona and US constitution is Arizona focuses more on limiting rather than granting power since its general authority has already been established, they address topics unique to their state and they are more open to amendments because the process isn’t as lengthy as if it was a United States amendment to the constitution (“State Constitutions vs. The United States Constitution | What is a Paralegal? | What does a Paralegal do?”, n.d.).
