Communication Distribution in an Organization
As many of you may already be aware, the tornado that struck our town over the weekend caused damage to our office building. Our office will be closed till further notice due to this occurrence. According to the most recent update, fixing the damage might take up to four weeks. We wish to reassure everyone that this closure will harm neither our output nor anyone’s employment. Until our office is fixed, we will immediately implement the remote work policy. We ask that every one of you carefully read the attached company’s remote work policy and ensure you adhere to its instructions. We acknowledge that getting used to this new work schedule will take some time, but we are here to help ensure everything goes as planned. While our business’s current state of affairs could be better, we will work together to resolve it. Any queries or concerns about the remote work policy are welcome to contact the company leadership. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and being understanding.
With great respect, John Olson
Officer of Public Information
The Heritage Company is one instance of a business that abruptly shut down and could have done a better job informing its employees. They were an Arkansas-based telemarketing business. In October 2019, they were the victim of a ransomware assault and could not restore full service to their business. A few days before Christmas, they abruptly shut down the business due to this incident, firing over 300 workers. In a letter to the staff, the CEO informed them of the closure and advised them to seek other employment. Many employees were caught off guard by the sudden layoffs because they were unaware the business had even experienced a ransomware attack. This example’s communication strategy could be better, and there are better ways to inform your staff of an unforeseen shutdown.
