Becoming a Social Change Agent By Making Socially Aware Choices

Most of our apparel will be produced abroad, in underdeveloped rural areas. Because it is less expensive and individuals there work exceptionally hard to complete more work, our clothing is produced there. Shien is a website I enjoy using for shopping since, besides having fantastic rates, their sizing is accurate, you get your orders quickly, and the clothing’s general quality could be better. Who among us does not adore all those features when shopping for clothing? I have often heard about the unjust treatment workers experience in nations like China that produce our apparel, but up until lately, I had never looked into it for myself. I began researching Shein because it sounded mysterious; the lack of an email address or a phone number felt suspicious.

Shein seems to be engaging in unethical labor practices. Fast fashion clothing is generally created in sweatshops with hazardous working conditions and child labor and is frequently intended to be thrown away after only one season (Farhat, R. (2020)).

The best thing I could do to bring about change is to cease purchasing Shein’s clothing and to educate others about the unethical conditions that they subject their employees to. Boycotting fast fashion companies is a popular suggestion for a collective action strategy. The biggest problem, sadly, is that boycotts only succeed when many people have joined in and made an effort to change things (Farhat, R. (2020).
