The Dynamics Of Public Policy In America

Public policy is the government’s goal-oriented plan of action for addressing a problem or issue in the nation. Although many other than legislators determine public policies, they are founded on the law. Everybody who participates in the policy-making process—individuals, groups, and even government organizations—has the potential to have some positive, some harmful, and frequently unforeseen effects and consequences.

I decided to write about criminal Justice, precisely the death sentence and capital punishment. I have a law degree and am a paralegal, so I strongly believe in the criminal justice system. But I am aware that the system mistreats many people. According to US Constitutional laws, offenders must answer for their conduct if they violate the law.

I believe a person should get a fair trial and be presumed innocent unless proven guilty; under US law, crimes like murder carry harsh punishments. The most brutal punishment is either death or life in jail. In the criminal justice system, a statement goes, “A life for a life,” or in the bible, it says, “an eye for an eye,” but I oppose the death penalty. The death sentence is supported by many of the general public, yet I am against such a severe punishment.

According to economic analysis, this strategy is expensive and imposes a somewhat cruel punishment. The cost of putting people on death row to death is thousands of dollars every year; rather than using this money to take lives, it should be utilized to improve prison conditions and compensate the victims’ families. In light of this, it is less expensive to sentence someone to life in prison than to put them to death for a crime.

According to science, human life should be valued rather than taken away or degraded. Humans have the right to life until death, and this punishment is cruel and against the rules of nature. Retaliation is not the answer; it is considered murder from a scientific standpoint. The lethal injection uses potent and deadly chemicals; it is not a natural way for a person to pass away. Scientists have not yet established that the death sentence lowers or eliminates the homicide rate in a country.

Many religious and political organizations disagree with this idea because they think we shouldn’t act like God. These organizations support the worth of human life and consider life in prison a more “fitting or suitable” punishment. The NCAPD (National Coalition to Abolish the Death Sentence) and ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) are two such interest groups that devote their time to eradicating the death sentence and have gone so far as to attempt to have the death penalty eliminated from the US Constitution.

This approach is controversial in Society; historically, several offenses carried a death sentence and were upheld as legal under the US Constitution. This ideology developed the criminal justice system, and these ideas served as the foundation for our country’s administration. Laws were created to preserve Society’s social order, and those who disobeyed them were made to pay for their transgressions, even if it meant losing their lives.

The death penalty being mysteriously eliminated by changing the Constitutional statutes is an example of how a public policy in my chosen area could have unexpected results or unforeseen repercussions. This country has tolerated the death sentence as an acceptable punishment for crimes for ages, yet residents have battled to end this practice for millennia. Taking life to take a life is wrong, cruel, expensive, and inhumane.

The death sentence does not solve anything or provide the victims’ families with Justice. As absurd as it sounds, most people don’t have any control over what they do, and free will is a myth. If humans have free will, we exhibit it strangely. We spend most of our adult lives working occupations that are highly unpleasant and depressing to us. We waste our hard-earned money on things we don’t need or fleeting sensations, and as a result, the ecosystem that supports our life is now in danger due to our excessive consumption. While the other half of the earth goes hungry, half is obese. When viewed objectively, human behavior is odd. Humans can distinguish between right and wrong, but we are inherently flawed. We are prone to react impulsively and under the influence of our emotions. Studies have demonstrated that our thoughts and deeds are under the influence of consciousness. We need to keep our awareness up. People often make mistakes in the heat of the moment, only to later understand the impact and repercussions of their choices. Humans frequently behave without first considering.

I believe that the death penalty should be eliminated because it is needless. When people lack control over their thoughts and emotions, they make mistakes in the heat of the moment and are penalized for seconds or minutes of their lives. They cannot control their actions when they lose consciousness or experience emotional outbursts. Your life could be instantly lost in 2 minutes. This is unfair treatment; they should be imprisoned for the remainder of their lives to reflect on the effects of their acts due to losing their freedom.
