Casey is a 20-year-old male who is a student at StetsonUniversity taking pre medical classes. He lives in the dorm at theuniversity and this is the first time he has been away from his family andmisses them greatly. This is his first semester at the university, and hehas not made a connection with any friends and is very lonely. Theworkload of his classes is overwhelming, and he has fallen behind. As thesemester continues Casey falls further behind on his classes and startsskipping class. He stays in his dorm room and does not eat and goes manyhours without getting out of bed. His hygiene is poor, and he has notshowered in weeks. His dorm mate begins to notice Casey talking tohimself often and when he asks him who he is speaking to he says nobody.He keeps all the blinds shut in his room all day because he feels that thecampus police are outside monitoring him. He reads the bible constantlyand tells his mother on the phone that he is a disciple of God and wants totravel the world and tell everyone he sees his prophecies. Casey’s motherbecomes very alarmed with her sons behavior and notifies the University.The student health nurse does a wellness check on Casey and is alarmed at whatshe finds. Casey refuses to cooperate with the student health nurse, andshe calls the police who takes Casey to the hospital for an evaluation.Casey is admitted involuntarily to the acute inpatient mental health unit forfurther evaluation. You come on duty and are assigned by the Charge Nurseto be Caseys nurse for the day. He is very paranoid and refuses to speakto you. He states if you do not leave him alone, he will killhimself.
